Mary Robinson
Studio: Mike Brown Contemporary (form. if ART)
Mary Robinson artist statement.
As I tear, cut and glue old artworks and clothing, I am simply reordering fiber, dye and pigment. I unstitch clothing and use the broken threads to create new fiber configurations or glue them to collagraph plates from which to make new prints. I cut up intaglio, relief and screen prints and reconfigure them into collages and sometimes make new prints from these collages. I pulp fabric to make new paper. These small acts of regeneration and transformation reflect hope: we can use limitations as opportunities for creativity. We can appreciate, respect and reuse the tiniest material scraps rather than over consume and discard.
